BLONDE HAIR: How to take care of your blonde locks at home
Many of our gorgeous P.R. Angels are blondes (hot, low-maintenance blondes are our thang) - but have you ever wondered how to keep your blonde looking as bright and healthy as it does in salon?
We have done up this article to help you out, boo. Read on to find out how to keep your locks feeling healthy and looking bloody amazing in between salon touch ups.
Hair Health
Hair health is a big one when it comes to blonde hair, when it is lightened the bonds that make up our hair are weakened and if its lightened too much you can end up with breakage (EEK, no thanks!). So to ensure that you get maximum results in salon and at home, it is important you are doing the right things to keep your hair in tip-top shape.
In salon we use the revolutionary k18 system - steps 1 & 2 to prevent any damage. But did you know you can get step 2 in salon to take home with you as well? This magic in a tube can be used once a week to strengthen and protect your locks. Just shampoo your hair twice as normal, towel dry your hair and pop it in - no need to rinse, its that easy! Want to pick some up on your next appointment? Just let your hair angel know and we can set it aside for you x
Along with this, we also recommend using a protein based home hair care routine as well. Kevin Murphy Repair Me is absolutely divine for all of our blonde kweens, it will keep your protein and moisture levels in check without weighing your hair down.
Styling
It is important to know that heat styling your hair can not only cause damage, but it can also accelerate how quickly your colour fades. So whether you only hit your hair with the blow dryer once a week, or just do the occasional wave for special occasions - you still need to make sure you are protecting your locks!
Oway Thermal Stress Protector is a mist that can be used in damp or dry hair to protect against heat damage. So, if you plan to blowdry your hair from wet, mist this in before you grab your hairdryer - or if you are popping in some waves over your two-day-old blowdry mist it in, allow it to dry and you will be good to go!
For our bbs who have hair that tends to get a lil dry or frizzy, the Kevin Murphy Young Again Serum is amazing. Not only will it keep your hair soft and moisturised, it also acts as a heat protector. Pop it in your hair wet when you’re doing a blowdry, or dry to straighten / wave and you will not regret it ;).
Toning
So you want to keep those locks looking glossy and creamy in between big colour jobs? Same honey, so read along to see how you can keep your colour looking fresh at all times.
The Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel range is phenomenal for when your locks are feeling a little brassy and you want more of a natural, creamy result. We recommend using either the Blonde Angel Wash or Rinse once a week or once a fortnight - in alternation with your regular shampoo and conditioner. Ensuring you don’t use these too regularly will prevent your blonde from over-toning or starting to feel flat.
If you have used your usual toning shampoo or conditioner and still feel like your locks are still a little brassy or are lacking a bit of lustre - it may be time to pop into the salon for a toner! A toner is a semi-permanent colour that can not only reduce brassiness, but also be customised to whatever tone you would like (hello strawberry blonde for winter anyone?!). As well as this, toner sits in the out layer of the hair, sealing the cuticle and restoring softness and shine! This is a great way to extend your colour between lightening services, and keep your locks looking fresher for longer.
